Omanis and Their
Silver
Omanis
have an internationally known and respected reputation for their work with
silver and the handicraft items they produce. As you will see in viewing
the items we have selected, the work done is spectacular and for anyone who
enjoys silver or is a collector of rare pieces, be it new or old, a piece of the
Omani artisan's work will surely be enjoyed for years and years to come.
Omanis
use pure silver for many items they create and when we feature such an item we
will specify the purity of its content. For all other items. Omani
artisans use 95% pure silver and 5% pure copper, just a step below
Sterling standards. In the West people are accustomed to a highly
reflective finish. That is unusual here in Oman. Omani crafters have
highly intricate designs and a brilliant finish to their work but it tends not
to be mirror like as is often found in the West.
None
of the traditional items featured in this section are machine made nor are they mass
produced. In keeping with their traditions. Omani artisans continue to
craft their wares by hand and most items take a minimum of one week to complete
with some taking several weeks of highly skilled efforts. And like the Omani
khanjer, multiple artisans are involved and several weeks for completion of a
single item.
The
skill is unmatched.
The
designs are unique to Oman.
The
tradition is priceless.
To
have is to hold history.
NOTE:
The traditional items have been photographed in black and white. The shots
were taken on location and due to lighting complications, black and white images
were required. We assure you that if you like what you see in black and
white, you will certainly like it even better when you have it for your
own!
Kindly
note that due to the variable rate of silver, the prices listed for these silver
items are considered outdated and will receive an updated quote upon receipt of
your inquiry.
Thank you.
